Impact of In Vitro Fertilization

About 5 million babies have been born as a result of in vitro fertilization (test tube babies).  What have been the impacts of the availability of this technology? Whom do these treatments benefit? Why do some people oppose the availability of these treatments? What scientific developments/technologies could this lead to and what would be the the possible effects of these developments (such as Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis or PGD)? How do these treatments impact individuals? How do these treatments impact society as a whole? Make sure you discuss the impact on society, not just the impact on individuals.
