Zoom Tips and Tricks:
Use a laptop if you can, particularly for discussion--you will be able to see more people at once.
Create an account at https://clemson.zoom.us/ using your Clemson email address without the g. If it prompts you for the institution's domain when you are trying to log in, just type in Clemson in the blank. Avoid using Safari--Chrome works better on a Mac.
Please have your video on unless you need it off for bandwidth or privacy reasons or we are a meeting of more than 50 participants. Let's get to know each other! If you bandwidth is terrible, call CCIT for a free hotspot.
Menus may only pop up when you move your cursor to that area of your screen.
Notice these menu items:
For smoother conversation:
- if in a meeting of 6 or fewer, don't mute yourself unless you have background noise
- in a meeting of 7 to 24, stay muted most of the time but unmute yourself as a signal that you have something to say
- if in a meeting larger than 24 and the person speaking is sharing their screen, stop your video
- raise your hand, or in larger meetings post questions and comments in the chat
- we enjoy seeing your pets!
Cautions:
- do not try to participate in a Zoom call while driving!
- if you turn off your video and walk away from the call it becomes obvious when the professor tries to speak to you
- private chats are visible to the professor in the chat log after the meeting
- make sure your clothing, background and actions are not embarrassing or offensive
